Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. It’s a durable precious metal for everyday jewellery and may develop a natural tarnish over time.

CARE: After wearing, wipe your piece with a soft, dry cloth and store it in a dry place. For a deeper clean, wash it gently with warm water and a little mild dish soap. Use a soft toothbrush if needed, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

Use a silver polishing cloth to remove light tarnish and restore shine.

If your piece includes pearls, stones, or other materials, avoid soaking it and clean those parts according to their own care instructions. For tarnished chain, it is best to use a "silver dip" jewelry cleaning solution.

Gold Plated Brass

Our gold-plated brass pieces are finished with 14K gold. Plating thickness varies by design: select pieces have 0.5 or 1.0 microns of gold plating, while our rings have 2.5 microns. Check the product description for details about a specific piece.

Gold plating wears gradually over time. The rate depends on how often you wear your jewellery and what it comes into contact with. Because brass has a warm gold tone, wear may be less noticeable than it would be over a silver-coloured base.

CARE: Put your jewellery on after applying lotion, perfume, hairspray, and makeup. Remove it before showering, swimming, exercising, or cleaning.

After each wear, gently wipe your piece with a soft, dry cloth. Store pieces separately in a dry place to help prevent scratches and tarnish. Avoid polishing cloths and abrasive cleaners, which can wear down the plating.

For a deeper clean, gently wipe with a soft cloth lightly dampened with mild soapy water. Wipe away any soap with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Avoid soaking your jewellery.

14K Gold-Fill

Gold-fill jewellery has a brass core with a substantial layer of 14K gold bonded to its surface using heat and pressure. Gold makes up 5% of the metal’s weight. This layer is much thicker than gold plating, so gold-filled pieces generally hold their finish longer with proper care.

Gold-fill metal is suited to certain components and designs, which is why you’ll see it used for some Kara Yoo pieces and not others.

CARE: After wearing, wipe your piece with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, wash it gently with warm water and a little mild dish soap. Use a soft toothbrush if needed, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

You can use a jewellery polishing cloth to restore shine. If your piece includes pearls, stones, or other materials, avoid soaking it and clean those parts according to their own care instructions.

Solid Karat Gold + Care

We typically use 14K yellow gold for our solid gold pieces. The “14K” means that 14 of 24 parts are pure gold (about 58%) with other metals added for strength and colour.

Solid gold is well suited to everyday wear and can be enjoyed for years with proper care. Its surface may become scratched or lose some shine over time, but it can be cleaned and polished.

CARE: Wipe your piece with a soft cloth after wearing. For a deeper clean, wash it gently with warm water and a little mild dish soap. Use a soft toothbrush if needed, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

A jewellery polishing cloth can help restore shine. If your piece includes pearls, stones, or other materials, avoid soaking it and clean those parts according to their own care instructions.

Freshwater Pearls + Care

Our freshwater cultured pearls are genuine pearls grown in freshwater mussels. We source them directly from pearl farmers in Zhejiang, China. Each pearl has its own shape and lustre, so slight variations are part of what makes it unique.

CARE: Put pearl jewellery on after applying perfume, lotion, and hairspray. After wearing, gently wipe the pearls with a soft, dry cloth to remove any residue.

Store pearl pieces separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches. If they need cleaning, wipe them with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water, then dry with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking pearls or using brushes, polishing cloths, or jewellery cleaning solutions.

Alongside freshwater pearls and natural gemstones, we work with lab-created gemstones, cubic zirconia and resin. Each material is chosen for the colour, shape, or finish it brings to a piece. Materials vary by design; you’ll find the details on each product page.
